How to setup TOTP (time-based one-time password) authentication for the login at the microscopes PC?
You can follow the guide below to setup the time-base one-time password authentication that you will need to login at our microscope PCs.
Finish the initial TOTP setup before going to the microscopy room
Mobile phone signal may not work inside the microscopy room.
The initial setup of TOTP (code-based) authentication must be done in advance. You only need an internet connection during the setup.
Once set up, the TOTP app on your mobile phone will generate codes without needing mobile signal or internet.
You always need your mobile phone at the microscope to be able to log in.
A. Select a microscope for booking
Go to https://ppms.eu/uni-bonn/?MCF and login with your login credentials. On your "Home" page in the booking system select the microscope of interest for booking (see image 1).
B. Read the instructions on the configuration page (see image 2 step 1)
If the microscope requires a time-based one-time password to login locally at the computer and you have not yet setup a TOTP authentication in the booking system you will be automatically presented with the TOTP configuration page.
C. Follow the instructions on the configuration page
- If you do not have an authenticator app installed yet, download and install one that suits you and works on your mobile phone (see image 2 step 2).
- Scan the QR code presented to you on the configuration page with the authenticator app (see image 2 step 3 / image 3).
- Select the option for "Regular login (password or single sign on)" (see image 2 step 4)
- Enter the 6-digit code from the authenticator app (see image 4) in the field "Submit an code provided with the application" (see image 2 step 5)
- Press the button "Complete configuration" (see image 2 step 6)
